I think my kindergarten teacher may have been the first person to identify the therapist in me. Mrs. Marr described me like this: "Kimberly loves storytime. . . is a good listener. . . expresses herself well. . . pays attention, is coorperative--very dependable. . . is seldom disturbed & recovers quickly from irritation. . . Kimberly converses equally well with children & adults. . . she has a keen sense of humor & laughs easily." I have enjoyed meeting new people & listening to their stories as long as I can remember. What's your story?
Sometimes our stories have difficult chapters that we long to end & other times our stories need some careful editing. Whatever your struggle or life situation, I invite you to come tell your story, because healing comes through sharing. I know, because I became a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in 1999 & have been practicing in a variety of settings for approximately 20 years. . . . yes, I am officially getting old!
I believe that it takes a lot of courage to come to counseling. I will do my best to help you feel accepted & respected. We've all been hurt & we all do things we later regret, but there is hope & healing for everyone! I will listen to your concerns, challenge you to set realistic goals, & provide honest feedback in a way that will help you be your best, which in turn will improve your relationships.
I will encourage you to explore ways that you might unknowingly be contributing to your problems & motivate you to take responsibility for your actions as well as your responses. My help will come in a variety of forms, such as empathy, education, confrontation, problem-solving, & insight. I work primarily from a cognitive-behavioral, family-systems, solution-focused perspective. Wherever you seek help, I hope that you receive the support that you need to achieve the results that you desire!
